Stumbling into Harvey Nichols, Leeds one afternoon, I was excited to see the new Charlotte Tilbury counter which had recently graced our city. Having made a bit of a habit of picking up something from her Selfridges counter every time I visited London due to the amazing product quality, I was more than ready to have the chance to purchase her line closer to home.

I originally had my eye on the Colour Chameleon eye pencils, but as the assistant showed me this on the eye, she just needed to finish it off with some of their Full Fat Lashes mascara.... Man did I get a shock! I'm fortunate enough to have naturally long lashes but this just means that when I find a really good mascara, my lashes are just supersized. That's exactly what happened here, even passers by were commenting – they were touching my eyebrows!

As a die-hard fan of the Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara, it's been a long time since I've even contemplated a different option but I was just so impressed that I had to give this a go. The mascara itself is a nice formula – not too wet so that it gets everywhere taking ages to build, and thick enough to get plenty of volume without making lashes clumpy. The brush is nothing groundbreaking but then I don't think it needs to be – I think this crazy, shaped wand craze is pretty much a fad, right?

The one teeny negative about this product? For some reason I find that after an hour or so, I get prints of mascara below my eyes if I'm not careful which, I can't deny, is frustrating. Is it because my bottom lashes are too big now?! Who knows... but if they ever managed to fix it, well ladies – I think we'd have found true lash perfection.

You can purchase it here for £22.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08690611820377318526noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9094393299890240177.post-21798736721844971532014-11-09T04:37:00.000-08:002014-11-22T11:22:11.711-08:00Sunday Pick: Pureology Strength Cure

This week's pick is by a haircare brand called Pureology – a brand I came across thanks to A Model Recommends. Having highlighted, fine, blonde hair, I need to take good care of it or it all starts breaking uncontrollably. I've tried a LOT of strengthening shampoos but this has got to be one of my favourites...

Where most fall short, is they throw tons of 'moisturisingness' into it, which just weighs my hair down leaving it lifeless, fluffy and unmanageable. Other more thickening duos can be unpleasant to use, difficult to lather and leave hair feeling dry. These little beauties feel lovely as they are so easy to lather and distribute throughout the hair; the smell of them is also delicious! Making my hair feel nourished and stronger, it still succeeds in leaving lightness and bounce which to me just feels like a revelation!

The brand itself is serious about colour protection with their registered 'Anti-Fade Complex', so it's great to know that my hard-earned, highlights are in safe hands. The formulas are also sulphate free and 100% vegan with many plant extracts, as well as being dual-benefit meaning they claim a solution for everyone. This is actually the second in the range that I've tried, initially starting with the 'Essential Repair' products which I actually think they're fading out with the release of this. I have to say that my experience with both has been brilliant so I'm sure the rest of the ranges would not disappoint.

Best of all, compared to some professional haircare brands, I'd say the price of these is very reasonable with prices for the two at around £25. You can purchase Pureology here from Lookfantastic.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08690611820377318526noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9094393299890240177.post-69868104246515543602014-11-02T04:20:00.001-08:002014-11-02T04:20:29.472-08:00Sunday Pick: Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub

This weeks fave comes from a fantastic man, Ole Henriksen. If you haven't tried any of his skincare yet, where have you been?! In fairness, the price of these products induces a sharp intake of breath every single time, but man are they worth it.

This particular scrub was bought on a whim whilst in California, a purchase solely based on the absolutely incredible scent – think sweet... nutty... delicious. However I'm pleased to report that this little tub has proved its worth, making its way to the top of my skincare list for far more tangible results.

The scrubs itself is fairly fine and concentrated – forget a gel with the odd scrubby bit in it, a mere fingerful of this baby will give you that deep, creamy, scrubby feeling that really feels like it's working. Soak it off with a warm, wet flannel and skin is not tight or sore – it's soft, refreshed and radiant. I truly believe this is like a 1 minute facial – your face is left slightly pink and perky whilst the effects resemble that of some of my favourite face masks, unlike any other scrub I've tried.

If you're looking for a miracle product, in my opinion they don't get much better than this. A scrub that ticks every single box. Can anyone recommend any of Ole's other products? What to try next...
Never was the word whirlwind been more relevant. Luckily, despite all this I have been good at keeping on top of Instagram, so when I look back over my snaps, it makes me realise just how much has happened and the neglect of my blog becomes clear...

Firstly, I have missed blogging. I started a new job just over 6 months ago which significantly impacted my time – this sort of explains why I dropped off the edge of the earth! But in truth, it's a job I love in an amazing design agency and I can't imagine doing anything else. So it's time to *attempt* to make these two lives collide... I'M BACK – lets hope for some kind of beautiful explosion!

In the mean time, I thought I'd leave you with a visual summary of my time away. California and Nevada, to the countryside, Leeds and London... Beauty, hair and fashion to drinking, feasting and gigging...

Please enjoy my whirlwind!

Recently, I picked up a couple of new items to add to my hair artillery, both with the aim of ultimately helping my hair grow more by damaging it less. Sometimes, I honestly think I have to care for my hair like it's a small child – I'm forever protecting and nourishing it in an attempt to encourage to grow, hell I've even had my roots stretched into my highlighted hair so I can wave bye bye to the bleach! However, my hair is an unruly beast and I'm only too aware that if didn't need to style it on a daily basis, it would probably already be as long as I'd like it.

Well, one can't dwell. So I've decided to combat my unlucky, frizzy genes and look for some products that can help me style my hair less and emphasise what I've got, without having to let my hair look terrible.

First up... Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. This product is well known in the blogosphere but every time someone talks about it putting 'grittiness' into your hair I just think ohhh no. I wash my hair every other day so I have been reluctant to try this product (gritty products don't feel good after a second day in my experience) but I'm glad I eventually took the plunge – it works amazingly. Whether I use it on my first day hair for a very natural wavy look (see above), or use it on second day smooth hair to add volume and a bit of effortless curl, I just think this product is fabulous. I do really like to encourage this to shape my hair nicely on freshly dried hair (especially at the back where it tends to be more frizzy) by twisting it in big sections and pinning it loosely for about 15 mins with a touch of hairspray. On a second day (straight or already wavy), just spritz and scrunch...

Secondly... Living Proof Prime Style Extender. I hadn't heard loads about this when I went for it but what I had heard was all good. As I said, I wash my hair every other day, but unfortunately when I wake up on the second day my hair is always a complete state (helloooo Hagrid hair) and I end up starting from scratch with it again. My thought process with this was that if I could find something that would hold my hair more overnight, then even if I did have to style it the first day, I wouldn't need to the second i.e. cutting styling by 50%. And I have to say, this really does work. I do notice a difference with how my hair holds through the day – not only with my new found wavy style (which without these two babies would usually revert to a frizzball with 2 seconds in the elements), but also when I smooth my hair out or curl it too. Furthermore, when I wake up the next day my style is still recognisably there though with a more worn in edge, however I would say this does work way better for me though when I've smoothed my hair out on day one rather than curling or waving. Nonetheless, this product has been a welcome all in one that I've been using religiously since purchase.

I hope you like my new style tips, I can't wait to use this style more and more as we go into Summer! Let me know anything that works for you guys that I should try :)

I don't often change my makeup look up drastically, particularly not for a day to day look. However I do like to give little nods to the seasons within my neutral look which I think is a nice way to do it for normal girls who don't have time to get dolled up every day!

I have definitely been getting into the Spring spirit this month: I've enjoyed my first day outside this year without a coat, worn plently of pastels on the nails and purchased oodles of lighter and brighter makeup items! It was never going to be long until it made it's way to my face...

Without futher delay, my most favourite Spring addition this month is the YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in 33 Rose Neillia from their Spring Collection and I have really been loving this. It's such a lovely flattering, pop of colour, so light and undetectable in texture and effortlessly chic on the lips – if you're looking for a Spring lip look, don't search any further! I've also been going for a nice creme blush which is very unlike me but I do think it does make for a way fresher look (although probably best avoided if you've got naturally oily skin). I've been reaching for Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Pink which is a beautiful light rosy pink that I find very flattering on my skin tone. I just lightly dab this on, starting at the apples of my cheeks and spreading up along my cheek bones. The packaging is super tiny and cute but nonetheless this is already lasting a life time – it's absolutely fab value!

The Laura Mercier Foundation Primer is a new addition to my makeup bag but I have been really enjoying using this so far as a replacement for my Benefit Porefessional. This has been a great lighter feeling alternative as it's water-based so just feels so much nicer and more hydrating on the skin. Plus it promises never to clog my pores and I can't say no to clearer skin for Summer! Finally, I've really never got in to liquid eyeliner however I've really been starting to like my winged eyes and it's all thanks to the Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner Pen ... I've dabbled in pen eyeliners before but always find them tugging on my eyelids and drying out really easily but so far so good with this baby! Since I've been going for a cleaner, less smoky look on my eyes, I find the winged eyeliner just really helps make sure my eyes are framed nicely without looking too dark and dusky – big thumbs up from me! Everything else in here I'm sure I've blabbed on about before but that's because they're all some of my favourite items in the world – deets below :)

Hello everybody and welcome to a slightly delayed roundup of my February Favourites. I always tend to do mine a few days late as I always like to look back at the full month before deciding, so basically this may become a theme! This month has been a really great month for favourites with some fab releases, 3 for 2 at Boots and the delayed effects of my January efforts to save... Forget monthly favourites, I think we could be looking at some lifetime favourites here!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta
An obvious choice but for a good reason! I think this blusher will be on every beauty bloggers monthly favourites but nonetheless I have loved using this product. I have never even swatched the Ambient Lighting Powder (I actually ordered one with the blush but SpaceNK has a bit of a disastrous stock issue) so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I have to say that I was not disappointed. It's got such a lovely buttery texture which goes on so smoothly, not leaving any uneven patches and I'm really chuffed I went for Radiant Magenta as it's the perfect bright pink that looks good through the Winter but also adds that fresh pop of colour in the Summer.

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub
Winter has taken its toll on my skin and lips this month and whilst I'm still working on fixing my skin, my lips were so easily fixed by this scrub it's unreal. What I love about this product is that it's instant results – unlike lip balms which take several applications to start working, this product takes one use and my dry, flaky lips are banished. It's truly a miracle.

Rose Gold Zoeva Makeup Brushes
Since my set of Zoeva brushes arrived a couple of weeks ago I have swiftly fallen in love with them – you can read my more extensive post here. Even if you can't get hold of this particularly gorgeous set, I would highly recommend getting some of these brushes as they are such amazing value and great dupes for the likes of MAC and Real Techniques. I'd highly recommend the 102 Face Brush and the 213 Petit Crease for eyes – beautiful.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in Vanilla
Oh hello new favourite foundation! This foundation just makes your life easy... it goes on like a dream, covers beautifully whilst giving natural radiance, the colour is a great match and it stays put perfectly all day – I'm hooked. I'm definitely preferring this to the Happy Light foundation and at such an amazing price, you cannot go wrong.

REN Radiance Perfection Serum
One thing that has been helping my dull skin this month is my old favourite REN's Radiance Perfection Serum. This stuff is pure magic under moisturiser on a night – in the morning, my skin is absolutely gorgeous. It's actually a shame to have to wash my face as I could probably happily walk out bare skinned with the stunning effect of this stuff. It's one expensive product, but it's more than worth it – trust me.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15
I was sceptical about this product, mainly because I was happy with my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. However, I was so happy I tried this in the 3 for 2 at Boots because I actually think it's way better! I never experienced the 'drying' issue people find with Lasting Perfection but the Fit Me has a far better shade range so my shade is literally a perfect match and I do find the formula really easy to blend in. Since getting it, I haven't picked up anything else!

Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake
How did it take me so long to catch on to these?! After picking up one in Peach Parfait last month and absolutely loving it except for one gripe about the amount of glitter, I swiftly picked up one in this shade which is far less glittery and now I'm officially in lip heaven! These have been great with my dry lips lately as they feel so hydrating and balmy, they're quick to slick on without a mirror, with gorgeous colour pay off and a decent lasting time. I'll definitely be picking up a few more of these and I'm sure the way I'm going I'll be using them up very quickly!

That's it for this month but I hope you enjoyed! What were you loving this month? Any recommendations on Revlon Lip Butters I should try? Let me know below :)

Helloooo Beautiful.

Ah – I need to stop, I need to be sectioned! I think I have the biggest rose gold obsession ever...

Anyway, can you blame me? These brushes are not only beautiful, they are really great quality in my opinion. I'd only heard bits and bobs about how good Zoeva brushes are but they are a real pain to get hold of so I didn't bother until this little beauty hit the shelves. You can order online from the Zoeva website for 58 euros, I think it worked out at about £48 but then I had to pay an extra £7.50 for shipping since they're Germany based – yowch! Nonetheless, value-wise these synthetic and natural brushes are fantastic and they even come with this super cute brush clutch which I think will be fab for travelling – I can never fit all my brushes in my makeup bag so that was a nice bonus.

I think these are very similar to MAC brushes in many ways and I do think the quality matches that too which is great news as they are so much cheaper! Particular highlights so far include the 102 Silk Finish Face Brush which I haven't put down since I got it and I actually prefer (oh my god) to the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, it's flawless perfection. The 106 Powder brush is also so lovely and fluffy and perfect for my Bourjois Java Rice Powder for a light, glowy dusting. Props also go to the 227 Luxe Soft Definer (perfect MAC 217 dupe) and 231 Petit Crease (as the name states, perfect for outer corner and crease work) which together make a great blending duo – I'm in love!

If they don't restock this collection (firstly, they must be fools!) then I would still whole heartedly recommend trying some of their single brushes (all the ones in the collections can be bought individually) or maybe even one of the other sets – you absolutely won't regret it. Even if like me you thought you already had all the brushes you needed...

Let me know below your fave Zoeva brushes and any more I should think of purchasing!

Uh Guys, did I miss the news flash where Primark got kinda good again? Now I am not Primark's biggest fan and I'd say I've avoided it for at least the last two years in which time my occasional 'check-ins' have been fruitless. But since it's pretty much the closest shop to my work, I popped in on my lunch the other day and was actually pleasantly surprised! All this for under £30... now that's a proposition I like.

I've been getting a little into cosmetic bags lately and when I saw these I thought they were just super cute and at £3 and £4 it was just a 'what the hell, I'll get em' moment. These remind me a little of Lulu Guiness (although obviously not quite as nice quality) which I really liked and I thought they'd be great just to have around and store my extensive collection of nail polishes...

I also picked up this necklace which I thought was really sweet, I think this was like £4 but I could be wrong! I thought this was really unique as it has both silver and gold in it, which is great for me as I have a lot of gold jewellery and fashion but also have a Tiffany bracelet and ring that I wear every day and also need to integrate day to day! I love the turquoisey beads in it and I think this will look fab going into summer!

Finally, I also picked up this boots for £15 I think, and I just love them! I've been looking for some boots like this for agesss – I wanted some that would be flattering with just tights (as I struggle with this having quite muscly legs) so the dip at the front helps that enormously, but I also wanted a gap around the ankle so that I could easily tuck jeans in and also to help make my ankles look a bit skinnier! The material has a nice soft leather look also which I thought was fab too.

Overall, a satisfying trip to Primark and I think I reminded my self why sometimes, sometimes, it is worth the pain. If anyone has any tips of where there are some nice bits in the shops lately, let me know below! I'm officially on a roll...
Not just kiss-specific by any means, they are by far the most practical lip products in my collection and require minimum effort and mirror-checking. The way I see it, you have two options... If you're going quite neutral, you can do anything really from a lipstick to a gloss but you just need formula that has zero stickiness and a nice smooth feeling. If you're going darker, you need something way more hardwearing, something stubborn yet gorgeous looking even with all the drinking, eating and occasional smooching. Challenge outlined, let's begin!

MAC Cremesheen Lipglasses are my all time favourite lip gloss – they are unbelieveably comfortable to wear and the neutrals all look stunning on the lips. Personally, I like to avoid the very glittery ones but go for those with a hint of colour – a your lips but better shade but with enviable glossiness added. The staying power is not the best with this – you'd get a couple of hours but the benefits are it looks beautiful while it's there, it never looks dodgy if it's rubbing off and it's so easy to apply that one surreptitious sweep and you're good to go again.

YSL Glossy Stain in #16

This lip product is definitely one of my favourites of all time – it's just so damn amazing. I definitely think you have to go for the darker colours to get the benefits of these Glossy Stains, otherwise the 'stain' part just doesn't work at all. Pick the right shade though, and you're in for a real treat! This stuff does not budge – easily lasts all day – eating, drinking, come what may! The great thing about it is that if it does start coming off after about 5 hours, you're left still with the most gorgeous moisturised lips with the beautiful colour of the stain still definitely present – it doesn't look like somethings faded, it looks like you intended it to look that way! One thing with these is you absolutely cannot have dry lips or you will see the stain cling to the dry bits – not pretty, but just check out the minimal kiss print in my highly scientific test down below...

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Creme Cup

Firstly, I must mention that I won this lipstick just last week from the lovely Evelyn at AllaboutEve's (she's fab, definitely check her out!) and it's such a good shade! She swore it was her go-to favourite for day-to-day and I can see why, it's been mine since it arrived in the post. Once again, it's the incredible Cremesheen formula which I think makes it so great! It's got that little bit of moisture which makes it very comfortable to wear, especially compared to some other MAC lipsticks I have which can be very drying (and I can feel awkward wearing them to be honest). Wear time is a solid 3 hours I'd say but it will move about/fade off with drinking etc – but again, with the light colour it has a discreet fade and is very quick and easy to top up. It also smells/tastes like vanilla – bonus!

Well, well, well. Yes, I went for it and purchased one of the new Naked Lipglosses from Urban Decay and I have to say, I think the formula is a pretty exact match for the MAC Cremesheens which is great news, especially as they are marginally cheaper! As you may or may not know, the Naked lipglosses are a range of nude shades but I actually picked up Streak, probably the least nude of them all. With the gorgeous coral tint and a fruity almost papaya and sweets scent, I couldn't help but tempt Summer to come a little quicker! Obviously, I love the formula of these for all the same reasons as the MAC Lipglass – I think this shade did come off slightly worse in the kiss print test however. Nonetheless – a fabulous new product with the desirable, 'barely there' feeling.

A recent discovery for me, I am actually pretty impressed by these Revlon Lip Butters, and I find my shade Peach Parfait is perfect for adding a nice slick of colour and life to my face, without being too pinky. Out of all my picks, this one moves about the most on the lips but that's because it's so damn moisturising with the effect of a very glossy balm. If you're going to be eating, drinking etc I would definitely go for the paler shades – I'd be worried to try a darker shade than this unless I was going to be available for constant check ups!

What can I say – this pencil is just magic! The Nars Matt Pencils just stays put so perfectly on your lips and I absolutely love the fact that being a pencil, I feel like you get really good control of creating a nice lip line which I tend to need. Out of all the products, this one definitely came up best in the kiss-print test, it's barely detectable at all so you needn't worry about getting it all over someone's, errr, face. The colour selection is beautiful and the formula is pretty hard to budge, but I'd occasionally check when you can as if it does fade it'll likely do so in the middle leaving you with the tell tale ring around the edge. Again, I'd make sure your lips are in good condition for this one, but that extra scrubbing will all be worth it!

So what did we learn this January? Products not to waste your precious pennies on this year, or actually ever... Sometimes it doesn't matter whether you let your usual research slip for a second in a brief moment of urgency, or whether you've been gathering intelligence on a product for the 6 months prior to purchase – some stuff just ain't good. This month, my disappointing products have been quite limited really with only 4 making it into the pack (and these I'd been testing out for a few months), so I suppose we can call this a good run! Let's hope next month I can get it down to just 3! Or is that wishful thinking?

First up was one of those panic purchases. I'd been squeezing the very dregs out of my old Benefit Porefessional for longer than I care to admit and had not seen anything I was keen to purchase (hindered by my budget at the time). With a voucher in tow, I decided the No7 Stay Perfect Primer felt pretty similar to Benefit Porefessional on my skin and on that basis alone I purchased. When I got home and emptied the box, I confess I was shocked at how small this was. No matter I thought, my Porefessional is pretty compact and that lasts aaaageesss. Unfortunately this does not have the same Mary Poppins-ness about it and I think I used it up in about a month, which is ridiculously fast for me. All in all, not bad for a drug store product – nice feeling on the skin although it feels a bit basic nowadays. This mainly gets thrown in the 'Don't Bother' pile for running out way too fast! Value for money gets 1 out of 5 stars as I reckon it'd be way better to buy a Porefessional once every 4 months than this every month without fail.

On the hair front, I had wanted to try something from the newish L'Oreal EverPure range after reading many bloggers saying it was pretty good, so having fine, easily damaged locks I opted for the L'Oreal EverStrong Reinforcing and Vitality Shampoo for fragile hair. I had real problems with this and found it far too heavy, particularly at the roots which is odd because when it comes to moisture and richness it tends to be 'more is more' with my hair. I actually ended up having to always use a second shampoo when using this to get rid of the root greasiness which isn't ideal at all! I'm giving the range a second chance though and have selected a different option which you can find more about here.

Biggest disappointment of the month? It's Indeed Labs Eysilix. I'd seen good things about this and had lusted after it since I tried it in Boots and could feel it tingling those fine lines away instantly. I don't know what happened with the one I picked up but this just wasn't the case. I couldn't feel any tingling at all so with no noticeable effect and pretty much convincing myself that I'd picked up a dud, it has turned into a real effort to use this as it just doesn't seem to do anything. A very pricy mistake... Snip snip, out the routine.

Finally, another disappointing product was the Simple Replenishing Moisturiser. How can such a cheap product be so disappointing you say? Well, I actually picked this up after reading that loads of women had blind tested tons of anti-aging cream and this very simple moisture had actually come up trumps against even £100+ creams. Wowza – obviously I needed no more convincing! This is a very light moisturiser so I can see why it's part of the Simple range, though I really wouldn't expect it to do amazing things for your skin. It's a basic product that matches the price, but given the claims I think I was naturally underwhelmed.

Hope you enjoyed reading about this month's dobos and it's hopefully saved you some wasted cash! Let me know if you have any I should know about.
Whether I'm getting blushers or lipsticks, I'll always reach for a pinky shade as I find they are just so much more flattering. So when I came across Topshop's Beehive lipstick on one of my lunch breaks, I was in there like swimwear.
I find the formula of Topshop lipsticks vary between shades, but in general I'm a big fan. In fact all Topshop makeup gets a big thumbs up from me. This particular lipstick has a very creamy formula and glides on the lips with total ease. This is another reason why it's a great everyday choice as it's barely detectable on the lips rather than the usual almost dried out feel you get with some other lipsticks. Given this, the wear time isn't long-lasting as you might expect; I'd say you'll get 2-3 hours out of it but in between, the fade will be completely unnoticeable which is ideal.

The most annoying thing about Topshop lipsticks? The packaging is cute but a few days in the handbag and it'll scrape and scratch until you see the metal underneath. One of my older ones is actually completely metal now which does just look a bit scratty! I do love that it's made of metal though as it feels way sleeker than the plastic drug store options – if only they could figure out how to make the coating stick around forever.

When it comes to hair and makeup, I strongly begrudge wasting my money frivolously in Boots and instead often buy higher end products that are well researched and I know I'll be pleased with. However, with traditional January belt tightening underway as well as having just booked an amazing West Coast USA Road Trip with the other pea in my pod – cheap and cheerful (but still well researched) drug store products have become the order of the day. So what are my picks?

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation in 21 – £11.99

I can't help but always be disappointed with drug store foundations so as a result I'm always incredibly reluctant to take a chance on them, especially because I always like to take a sample home first if I can. This is a bit of an exception as I'd just heard so many good things about it (especially from bloggers who also love my current high-end fave YSL Youth Liberator Foundation) so when it came down to it, I thought the odds were pretty good!

It's light textured but with really good coverage (I'd say about medium) and it blends in so seamlessly, leaving a flawless, natural finish. This is particularly surprising as the colour range is so poor – in order to get a pink undertone I had to go darker than I would usually dare (50, the palest was far too yellow for me) – however on the skin, it doesn't look unnaturally deep on in my opinion, despite my normal strive for a perfect match. I actually felt it gave me a bit of warmth to the skin (without out being orange) which was a welcome addition in these pasty winter months.

It lasts well and the finish is radiant, but far less dewy than the YSL Youth Liberator Foundation which I think makes it perfect for day to day wear (especially with my currently combination skin). All in all, a winner I'll continue to keep in my stocks going forward... looks like some good things come out of saving money!

Seventeen Pwoar Paint in Fair – £5.49

The reviews have been mixed for this one but I thought I'd give it a go, if only for the great name! It's very similar in texture to my long term lover MAC Studio Fix Concealer (NC20), so I thought this would be a good one to keep handy in my bag. It's good-ish – reasonable coverage and definitely easy to apply. However my bug bear with this one is that it's advertised as an under-eye concealer, yet this is the one place I think it fails to work well. It's pink toned which for my skin is usually a good thing, however when you're tackling blemishes and dark circles I find my yellow toned MAC Studio Fix and Collection Lasting perfection concealers work way, way better. This is okay for top ups during the day, but otherwise I'm yet to find it's place in my routine.

L'Oreal EverRiche Nourishing & Flowing Shampoo & Conditioner – from £3.99 at the minute

Having fairly thin and easily damaged blonde tresses, I had previously tried the EverStrong Reinforcing shampoo from this line; however I really found this was too heavy for my hair (a rare claim for me) as it left my roots greasy, meaning I often had to use another shampoo to follow. In any case, I like the idea of this line – as I'm trying to grow my hair, the fact there are no sulphates is a big bonus from what I can gather (I'm not fooled into thinking this is an all natural product, don't worry!) and it offers a decent drug store option that's not loaded with things that just coat your hair.

The smell is lovely – slightly sweet and creamy – and it's enjoyable slathering it all over my hair creating a soft foamy lather, no problemo. It makes a fab day–to–day duo which does leave my hair feeling nourished and generally just does the job.

Bourjois Java Rice Loose Powder – £9.99

For my own safety (purse's safety) I've been staying well clear of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder despite the many great reviews, but after hearing how the effects of this can rival that of Hourglass it went straight in the basket. Being yet another radiance product it was never really going to pass me by, and the very light, loose dust and pinky, translucent tones did not disappoint. It's fab for blotting down shiny areas and gives me a much lighter and more natural option to my usual MAC Studio Fix Powder. I find this little beauty means I get a shiny T-Zone far less quickly and look naturally glowy all day long.

Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Texturising Spray – currently £4.66 here

Finally, another alternative to a bankrupt-worthy product I've had my eye on for ages – Oribe Texturising Spray. Every blogger and her pooch has heard about this texturising spray wonder so when Liana Beauty suggested this as a dupe I was in there like swimwear! At such a cheap price compared to the £38 tag of the Oribe version, I was sceptical about its credentials however I was pleasantly surprised at how effective it was. It pumped volume into my often lank roots like no hairspray has ever been able to do and definitely just gives you that natural lift without the need for loads of backcombing (and hence damage).

The downside? I absolutely hate the way this feels in my hair. It's not too bad in the beginning, but later in the day I feel my hair getting knotty and coarse-textured and the next day my hair is a write-off. As a girl who washes her hair only every other day to avoid damage, this is a problem. I've been reserving it for only special occasions when getting that extra 'pouffe' is non-negotiable.

So all in all, a pretty good hit rate on my not-so-splurgey-splurge so far! Any more suggestions on cheap products that'll do it as good or if not better than their pricy counterparts? Let me know below :)

One of my favourite Christmas gifts this year was the rather lovely Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks Gift set and there's a number of reasons why... The daytime friendly tones, easy to apply formula and the sleek and compact packaging to name a few. I admit, I did pop it on the Xmas list myself but just look at them – can you blame me?

So these are all minis of the full size Caviar Sticks which I believe Laura Mercier do all year round so this was the perfect opportunity to try a few different ones and see what I liked and didn't like. Until now, I've also always been a Laura Mercier virgin so this proved a fab way to dip my toe in the LM pond. I already knew the pigmentation would be great as a lovely lady in Space NK had come running over to show me when they first came in, but I actually think they are most lovely because on the eye it's a much more subtle sheen, and not full on shimmer/glitter as you might expect.

Left to right we've got Sugar Frost, Pink Opal, Rose Gold and Amethyst, all shades which are available in the full size here. I've definitely been using Rose Gold and Amethyst the most as they work so well together to create really simply shading either day to day or for building up on a night. They look SO beautiful together! Pink Opal is simply not my thing so it may just get the occasional inner eye use, but Sugar Frost does look lovely as a nice wash on it's own also. All in all, a pretty good hit rate!

I have not been able to put these down since I got them, in fact I had to try so hard to hold back just so I could get some decent pictures to put on here! So if you're looking for a product which gives you a super easy eye with maximum effect, I can't recommend these enough. Swatch one, and prepare to fall in love...

New Years Eve festivities are calling and it's your last chance to whip out the sparkly polishes for another year! So this is the look I'm rocking this year. I've seen it all over the place lately, including on the new Nails Inc adverts where it looks ah-mazing! So naturally I've been desperate to try it and here we go!

It's pretty much a waterfall, dip-dyed glitter effect from the top of the nail, giving a really nice graduated effect. I've given it a twist and used my strandy glitter polish rather than a simple glitter which gives a slightly less gradual and more 'rain shower' effect I think – either way I'm super chuffed with the results!
Surprise surprise with the polishes I've used on this one – OPI My Very First Knockwurst and Topshop Costume Ball (I really need to stop going on about these) – but you could use whatever colours or glitter type you want. You can either drag the glitter down the nail making it more condensed or the top, or build up layers from the middle of the nail and each time go over less and less of the nail – whatever works for you really!

So I admit, when buzzing around Leeds for my last minute Christmas pressies, I stopped in at Space NK to get sample of the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and ended up coming out with a couple of extra bits than I intended...

I'd been meaning to try the NARS Velvet Matt Lip Pencil and so I just selected a shade which I thought would be 'me', which turned out to be Never Say Never. I swiped it on and fell in love instantly! Feeling unusually generous with my money, I decided I would have it straight away. Before I had even got the swiping, the Sales Assistant had offered me some Lip Balm to put underneath and oh my... I didn't know lip balm like this existed! It was the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm which has the most gorgeous scent – almost like a lemony honey– and the most divine texture like a very, very silky wax that lasts for ages. Naturally that also went straight into the basket... Whoopsie.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, I have had a lovely time and I'm just sorry I haven't had time to blog during this time! Happy New Year Everyone :)

You can pick up Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm for £9.50 and the NARS Velvet Lip Pencil for £17.50 both from Space NK.

Sophie Allport has entered my life rather slowly over the last 6 months or so. During our summer trip to Cornwall, her beautiful crockery caught my eye in a small, eclectic surf shop on the beach. Since that point, I've seen her collection popping up in shops here and there until finally, I stumbled across a brand new store devoted entirely to her brand in the Victoria Quarter in Leeds. What a beautiful shop it was – I wish I'd have take a picture so I could show you all – a lovely browsing shop with rustic charm. Perfection!

So it turns out she did my course at the University of Leeds *flicks hair smugly* so naturally I feel even more impressed by her work. Her themes are consistent with a variety of beautiful animal prints on pastel, country shades in the background with her stylish label stitched to every piece. Eventually I could not wait any longer and proceeded to spend a ridiculous amount of money on tea towels...

My favourite print of all is the deer print and that apron has been on my wishlist for some time – we'll have to see what Santa brings! I insisted on getting the tea towel of this print and thought we may as well go 3 for £16 (gotta love a deal despite the fact £16 it's for tea towels...) so threw in some dogs and some chickens too (at the boyfriend's request). We've also been looking for a carrier bag holder as sad as that is but managed to find this super cute labrador one here for around £7/8. In general, I just think all the prints are adorable and hand drawn which I just think adds a lovely authentic touch to any room.

Personally I just think her range is so stunning and unique. Move over Cath Kidston and Emma Bridgewater...

Check out her beautiful things here, if you can get them in time they'd make fabulous Christmas pressies :)

You may have noticed that many department stores are having a discounted week this week, including Debenhams, House of Fraser and John Lewis. With the Christmas party season upon us, there were a few little investments that I was keen to make so I could get my 'Festive Face' sorted – a few little essentials!

One that's been on the list for a while is the YSL Youth Liberator Foundation – oh how reviews of this have plagued our blogosphere and fuelled our lust for it over the last couple of months... And consequently, what a nightmare it was to get hold of at a discounted price! Alas, I laid my desperate paws on this this morning for a delightful £30.60 in House of Fraser (with their loyalty card deal) rather than the usual £34 which I admit, does not strike as a great deal but hey ho – the price of beauty! Be warned, Debenhams are pricing it at £37 for some strange reason so their 15% off is actually not as good a deal. You can however pick it up at John Lewis who are price matching Debenhams 15% off, making it about £28 (if you can get hold of your shade!) which is easily the best deal.

This foundation has been hailed the latest ticket to radiant, faultless and utterly complimentable (should definitely be a word) skin, perfect for constant photo-readiness; for these reasons I've been keen to give it a try for myself for a little while. Radiance foundations are my go-to as thick foundations just don't sit well on my skin at all, however these lighter options can often disappear by the end of the day. Unfortunately limited staying power and people who never top their makeup throughout the day (yup that's me) don't mix at all... In any case this formula is described as medium to high coverage which I actually find very surprising. When I tried it in the shop (as usual there were no bloody samples) it really felt very light on my skin but did give a dewy effect which I plan to tone down ever so slightly with powder. Anyway, I've got high hopes for the staying power and finish of this gem especially with Christmas parties in mind... I'll keep you posted!

Next up is Benefit's Porefessional – around £20 down from £24.50 in Debenhams. I've just finished my little tube and it's been an absolute saviour for a longer lasting and mattified base; I find it really just takes off the inevitable 'shiny edge' of a radiance foundation later on in the night and keeps your skin looking and feeling fresh long term. The texture is really nice, a strangely smooth, gel consistency which melts into skin with absolute ease and instantly makes pores appear smaller and gives a generally more even appearance. I do find the name a bit misleading on this one to be honest and I actually didn't fall in love with it at first at all because of this. However after a recent rediscovery I can wholeheartedly vouch for it's effectiveness as an all over primer – don't try and use it just on pore heavy areas though – you won't get your money's worth!

Finally, a bit of a last minute one thrown into the pot... the YSL Glossy Stain in 16. Whilst perusing the counter, I thought it was about time I took a piece of Fleur de Force's advice and tried one of these beauties and I'm so glad I did. As the name suggests, it's a gloss that stays put like a stain hour after hour – the dream gloss. I was originally keen to go for a nude but ended up settling on this kind of fuchsia colour as it just seemed to suit me the best. It's the most perfect colour in my opinion – I even wore this out in the day today which is so unlike me due to the usual impracticalities of darker colours! I needn't have worried though as it looked stunning and stayed put all day without any top ups – I'm flabbergasted. I think this one deserves its own full review as it's, hands down, a new fave for me. I urge you all to go and test one for yourself... £19 rather than the usual £23.50 at Debenhams.

What will be your staples for the party season that I should be stocking up on?

Okay so I'm two days out – I'm sorry! I've been meaning to post this for ages but I'm just too busy all the time at the minute, no excuses though... Here are my November waste-of-time products so you can avoid wasting your money like I did.

Tigi Bed Head Ego Boost – Split End Moisturiser
Surprise surprise I was lured in by a product promising to sort out my split ends. I must have got this when I was about 15 and I still haven't finished it – that's how rubbish it is. It does kind of make your hair feel good, but it literally makes it so soft it's like cotton wool! Mine became so flyaway that even though it was soft, it was completely unmanageable – by the time I'd of finished straightening my hair, it had gone wavy again. Not helpful at all!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Scrub
Why oh why can't I find a decent daily face scrub? Feeling like I can never find anything any good I'm always tempted by cheaper drug store options, but sometimes it feels like none of them know that people need the scrubby bits to be scrubby, let alone attempting to make a product which feels luxurious. This is just another one in the useless face scrub graveyard for me.

Aveda Shampure
Ahhh I heard such good things about this and how good it really looked after your hair! I won't lie, a testemonial from the beautiful Leighton Meester and I was basically sold. It's not an unpleasant shampoo, it's just not for my hair – it just doesn't really do anything and can leave my hair feeling a bit dry rather than nourished (which is what my hair needs). I really didn't get past a couple of uses of this but I'll keep it on the shelf in case I want a clarifying shampoo one day, I think it'll be good for that.

Mitchum Advanced Control Deodorant
I can't talk in dept about deodorant really, but I heard this was a saviour product and it's just not. It is definitely not a replacement for my trusty Sure Maximum Protection!

Lee Stafford 'I hate my hair the say it's washed' Solution Spray
Want delightfully crispy, sticky hair? No, me neither. I thought this would be a good idea to stop my flyaway hair and make it slightly more manageable after washing, which the name suggested it would be.... How I was wrong. I have the fluffiest baby hair and I hate it, I really can't see who it would work for!

Hope you enjoyed this one, it's going to be a regular feature though so I'll keep stocking up more pointless products for next time. Toodloo til then :)
It's all too easy to get sucked in to deep burgundies and wine colours on the nails when the cool chill hits, but I like to change it up from time to time without losing the festiveness!

When I fancy a lighter option, for me it's all about greige! Today I went for one of my Essie faves, Miss Fancy Pants – a very light mauvey grey which keeps it wintery without being being dark all the time (those chips show all too easy!). To add a little spice I added a thin coat of Topshop Costume Ball to one nail – the rose gold flakes in this polish look beautiful over most colours, offering something a bit more unique yet still utterly versatile. It's a winner for me!

Let me know what you think about my wintery alternative, what colour are you reaching for at the minute?
scents – all, I have to say, beautiful. I love this Gracious Tuberose scent. It’s super summery,

too much of a grown up scent. All in all, a perfect element of my collection.

literally just hit me every time I opened the zip. I think the packaging is

note but also a distinct sweet hit – it’s incredibly unique. Actual coolest
moment of my life was when I was in a New York Cheesecake Shop and the guy
right across the till said in the most incredible American accent “Oh my god,
wow you smell amazing, is that vanilla?!” Oh the wonderful effects of this

For my two base colours, I’ve gone for a light peachy, pink (Jest) and slightly more rose gold, bronze (All That Glitters) option – both beautiful washes or bases on their own, or used together as part as a more night time look. Next I wanted Sable in my collection, a light golden plummy bronze – a perfect in-between day–to–night shade that works well on the outer corner or similarly as a wash for day time. Finally, to take place of the ever illusive Sketch, I went for Twinks. As you might be able to tell, I love a slight shimmer and find them far easier to work with so this definitely fitted the bill. It’s a deep plummy brown (can you see a pattern developing?) and looks gorgeous on the crease of a smouldering eye.

So here it is – Part II of my Holy Grail
Empties, this time for skin. If you didn’t see Part I, which was hair,
you can catch it here, but the
general gist is my empties are always my favourite products that I always
repurchase! So… two birds one stone… I call them my Holy Grail Empties! Let’s
begin!

REN Radiance Perfecting Serum

Admittedly this was a bit of a splurge when
I first bought it, but it’s straight on the Christmas list for this year as
it’s just so damn good. Anything with ‘radiance’ in the name just shouts out to
me as if I have one skin problem, it’s that it can look quite dull especially
because I’m pale. This product works absolute wonders. A little sweep of it all
over before my moisturiser at night and in the morning – honestly – my skin
looks amazing (even when I feel like crap). Me and my friend road-tested it
before an early flight to Barcelona in the summer (I told her it was a magic
serum) and with only 3 hours sleep we looked like we’d had 12. She was pretty
impressed!

I never use it in the morning as well, as
it recommends, and I don’t use it every night either (mainly due to the hefty price tag) so
when I do use it, say if I’ve been on a night out or feel particularly groggy,
the difference is literally astonishing!

I cannot rave about this product enough but
at just under the £30 mark, you’d better save some pennies (or add it to the
Christmas list like me!).

Dove Maximum Protection Deodorant

I’m pretty sure this is exactly the same as
the Sure Maximum Protection deodorant and at exactly the same price, I
interchange them with just whatever I fancy really! I think 90% of my friends
use this deodorant (either Sure or Dove) and constantly rave about it (you know
who you are!) because it really is the best – to get to the nitty gritty, not
even one ounce of a chance of you sweating with this bad boy so I think it’s
just great for peace of mind! It is more expensive (£5.30) but lasts a hell of
a lot longer than the spray deodorant. Oh and it actually works too.

Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser

Okay so moisturiser is one of those things
I really struggle to find a decent one of, and in the past I’ve ended up buying
really cheap ones and not really being impressed with the results. Liz Earle
skincare, famed for it’s Cleanse and Polish which admittedly is good, actually has
much more to offer. This cream smells absolutely divine, really calming and
soothing with Avocado Oil and Echinacea and the texture is perfect – not so thick
so that I feel like I’m rubbing it in for ages and not too thin that I wonder
‘what’s the point?’ It feels rich and nourishing but sinks in beautifully, and
a little tub like this lasts ages. I urge you to go and try it. They have
different options for different skin types but if you’re looking for just a
good, solid moisturiser, I think this is a great contender. It’s just under £20
but if you get it as part of their monthly skin care set, I think it’s a pretty
good deal for the quality.

Soap and Glory Breakfast Scrub

What a sad little tub it looks in this
picture! It’s the pink one with no labels on, they all came off in the shower
which is a bit rubbish I admit! However, the scrub itself is insane! It smells
oaty/nutty as you might expect from the name and the scrubby bits are made up
of nuts (at least I think they’re nuts!) and make a really great exfoliator. I
prefer scrubs with large ‘bits’ far more than small ones as I feel like they
just get more done with minimum effort from me. Used just before shaving, this
scrub leaves your legs a real treat as it’s also pretty moisturizing (but not
oily). At £8 it’s definitely affordable and you can regularly pick it up on a 3
for 2 – can’t go wrong in my book!

I’ve already done a post raving about this
amazing cream which you can find here,
but in short it’s the most amazing body cream I have ever found. The scent is
beautiful and once on the skin just absolutely shines and being a whipped
cream, it’s light and easy to rub in but feels beautifully indulgent and
nourishing on the skin. I’m absolutely in love.
